The High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to Nigeria, His Excellency Ambassador Sediq Abdullahi Abu, led a Ghanian delegation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, to present an Independence Celebration Cake to the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, in commemoration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Ambassador Enikanolaiye expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a unique demonstration of the depth, breadth and strength of the relations between Nigeria and Ghana. He underscored Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring that bilateral relations between the two countries continue to produce tangible benefits for their peoples. He called for sustained consultations and dialogue to address potential irritants before they affect their longstanding partnership.
Looking ahead to Ghana’s 70th anniversary, the Honourable Minister of State called for the revitalisation of bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Nigeria-Ghana Joint Commission, while stressing the importance of sustained cooperation on trade and investment, security, defence, regional stability and transboundary challenges.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria-Ghana relations, enhancing economic and people-to-people exchanges, and advancing cooperation on shared West African and continental priorities.
