The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, received the Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria, H.E. Hideo Suzuki, on Monday, 26 October 2026, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.<\/div>\n

Discussions focused on the potential for enhanced bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, industrialisation and technology transfer. Both sides also explored opportunities for joint ventures, private-sector partnerships and improved business facilitation. They considered the proposal for the establishment of Japan Industrial and Investment Hub in Nigeria as well as a Consulate-General of Japan in Lagos.<\/div>\n

The meeting further highlighted Japan\u2019s development cooperation with Nigeria in agriculture, energy, healthcare, education and technical training. Other key issues discussed include migration, creative sector collaboration and a proposed US$50 million fund to support Nigerian start-ups and youth employment.<\/div>\n

Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening institutional cooperation and advancing bilateral engagement towards the conclusion of a Technical Cooperation Agreement.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to deepening cooperation through practical initiatives that advance their shared aspirations and mutual interests.<\/div>\n
