Nigeria and Jamaica have signed an Agreement on Technical Assistance aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding the impact of Nigeria\u2019s Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Programme in Jamaica.<\/div>\n
\nThe agreement was signed on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. It followed a meeting between Nigeria\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Jamaica\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith.<\/div>\n
\nThe two ministers discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations and promote greater people-to-people exchanges. Senator Johnson Smith expressed Jamaica\u2019s appreciation for the contribution of Nigeria\u2019s TAC Programme, particularly in health, education and local fabric artisanry, and indicated interest in receiving additional Nigerian professionals, especially nurses and teachers.<\/div>\n
\nShe also highlighted the programme\u2019s wider cultural impact, citing \u201cJADIRE\u201d\u2014a concept combining Jamaican designs with Nigeria\u2019s traditional Adire tie-dye technique\u2014as an example. The concept was developed by Jamaican artisans following training under the TAC Programme in 2018.<\/div>\n
\nBoth ministers acknowledged opportunities to expand cooperation in other areas of mutual interest and agreed to pursue them through existing and additional bilateral platforms. The signing of the agreement reaffirmed Nigeria and Jamaica\u2019s commitment to strengthening their longstanding ties and advancing practical cooperation for mutual benefit.<\/div>\n
