The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, PhD has commended the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) for promoting informed discourse on diplomacy, security, trade, and international cooperation through its annual conference.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Ahmed gave the commendation while speaking at the 2nd DICAN Diplomatic, Security, Trade and Investment International Conference held in Abuja.<\/p>\n
He described the conference as a timely and valuable platform for robust engagement on diplomacy, international relations, regional cooperation, global development, and security issues.<\/p>\n
The Permanent Secretary emphasized the critical role of diplomatic journalism in shaping public understanding of foreign policy in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world.<\/p>\n
According to him, the media remains a vital partner in promoting constructive dialogue, mutual understanding, transparency, accountability, and international cooperation among nations.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Ahmed Ahmed noted that diplomatic journalism serves as a bridge between governments and citizens, while also fostering informed public discourse on global affairs.<\/p>\n
He reaffirmed Nigeria\u2019s commitment, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to strengthening strategic partnerships with the media in advancing the country\u2019s foreign policy objectives anchored on national interest, economic diplomacy, regional stability, and the protection of Nigerians abroad.<\/p>\n
The Permanent Secretary also acknowledged the role of the media in projecting Nigeria\u2019s image positively on the global stage and increasing awareness of the nation\u2019s diplomatic engagements and achievements.<\/p>\n
He urged participants at the conference to use the opportunity to exchange ideas, deepen professional collaboration, and explore innovative approaches to diplomatic reporting in the digital age.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Ahmed expressed confidence that the conference deliberations would contribute significantly to strengthening diplomacy and media professionalism in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Highlight of the event was the official launch of the Nigeria Fact-Check and Information Integrity Network, an initiative aimed at promoting responsible information sharing and combating misinformation.<\/p>\n
The initiative is built on three major messages: \u201cVerify Before You Share, Truth Matters: Build a Stronger, Safer Society,\u201d and \u201cThink Before You Share.\u201d<\/p>\n
