Nigeria has taken another decisive step toward strengthening its peace and security architecture with the Capacity Building Engagement for the Multi-Stakeholder Conflict Early Warning Response Group (EWRG), held on 17 December 2025 at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Abuja.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The high-level engagement, organised by IPCR in collaboration with the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRING) Project, and supported by the United Kingdom\u2019s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), brought together a diverse coalition of security and non-security stakeholders committed to improving Nigeria\u2019s ability to prevent violent conflict through timely and coordinated response.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, was represented at the event by the Ministry\u2019s Spokesperson, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr, due to pressing national assignments. In the address delivered on the Minister\u2019s behalf, Nigeria reaffirmed its strong commitment to conflict prevention, early warning, and rapid response systems as core components of its national security and foreign policy priorities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The message underscored the Federal Government\u2019s support for data-driven, collaborative approaches to peacebuilding and commended IPCR and its partners for convening the engagement at a critical time.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Participants at the session cut across key security agencies, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), development partners, civil society organisations, women groups, transport unions, and the media.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Represented institutions included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigerian Army, DSS, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, Nigerian Correctional Service, NEMA, FRSC, National Boundary Commission, National Orientation Agency, NURTW, and the British High Commission, among others.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Opening the programme, the Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, highlighted the central challenge confronting Nigeria\u2019s conflict management efforts: the gap between early warning signals and effective response.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
