The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the First Consultation Mechanism on Matters of Mutual Interest Between Nigeria and Mexico on Wednesday 26th November 2025 at the Ministry\u2019s Headquarters in Abuja.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The meeting was co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD and Ambassador Anibal Gomez Toledo, Director-General for Africa, Central Asia and Middle-East, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, who led the Mexican delegation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The meeting reaffirmed both countries\u2019 commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing economic opportunities, and advancing multilateral cooperation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Discussions covered a wide range of strategic areas, including:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Political Dialogue:<\/strong><\/div>\n
Outlook for high-level visits and structured dialogue mechanisms, alongside preparations for the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Nigeria\u2013Mexico diplomatic relations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* Economic and Trade Relations:<\/strong><\/div>\n
Promotion of the Nigeria\u2013Mexico Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expansion of business exchanges, and exploration of new trade and investment opportunities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* Legal instruments and Consular Cooperation:<\/strong><\/div>\n
Review of existing legal instruments under negotiation, identification of new areas for cooperation, and enhancement of consular collaboration between both countries.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
* Multilateral Affairs:<\/strong><\/div>\n
Joint engagement on pending candidacies, participation in the G-20 Summit, and shared support for reforms of the United Nations system.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

* Regional Affairs:<\/strong><\/div>\n
An update on the regional situation in ECOWAS and areas of mutual concern.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed conveyed Nigeria\u2019s appreciation to Ambassador G\u00f3mez Toledo and his delegation for their commitment to strengthening the long-standing relations between both nations, reaffirming Nigeria\u2019s readiness to advance cooperation for mutual benefit.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The next session of the consultative meeting will be held in Mexican.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
