MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS RECEIVED IN AUDIENCE COALITION OF NIGERIAN YOUTH ON SECURITY AND SAFETY AFFAIRS (CONYSSA) ON 6TH FEBRUARY 2026
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in audience on Friday 6th February 2026 a delegation from the Coalition of Nigerian Youths for Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), a youth-led national organisations committed to mobilise and engage Nigerian youth in initiatives that promote youth empowerment, inclusion, peace building and national development across Nigeria. The delegation was led by Mr. Abraham Kwaghfan, a senior national officials of the coalition, who presented an overview of their mandate, activities, and areas of proposed collaboration with the Ministry, and the they were received by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, ably represented by the Spokesperson of the Ministry, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
According to the leader of the delegation, CONYSSA was established in 2019 and formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2022. The coalition operates with the stated objective of complementing Nigeria’s national security architecture by bridging the gap between Nigerian youths and security institutions through advocacy, engagement, and preventive interventions.
He highlighted several ongoing and completed initiatives, including:
Nationwide youth security and value-reorientation campaigns covering the South-West, South-South, and North-West geopolitical zones.
Organisation of security summits addressing drug abuse, cybercrime, trafficking, extremism, and other social vices.
Youth-focused interventions aimed at mitigating extortion and rights violations involving security agencies, including mediation and recovery of funds.
Engagement with major security institutions such as the Nigeria Police Force, Police Service Commission, and other relevant agencies.
Plans to extend programmes to the North-East, South-East, and North-Central zones, with a forthcoming North-East summit proposed for Gombe State.
The delegation also underscored its volunteer-driven structure and its extensive grassroots manpower drawn from affiliated youth organisations, including both paramilitary-aligned and civil society groups.
CONYSSA requested partnership, support, and institutional endorsement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the following areas:
Youth engagement initiatives aligned with Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, particularly demography and diaspora engagement.
Structured engagement with Nigerian youths in the diaspora to address welfare, image, and security-related challenges.
The Spokesperson of the Ministry, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, in his response commended CONYSSA for its youth-focused security initiatives. He clarified the Ministry’s mandate, particularly in relation to consular services, diaspora engagement, and the institutional frameworks for assisting Nigerians in distress abroad. He explained that Nigerian Missions overseas are competently equiped and responsible for providing consular services to Nigerian nationals in their respective host countries, while the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission also interfaces with Nigerians in the diaspora who require assistance. He therefore advised the delegation to liaise with the Ministry whenever the need arises for appropriate guidance and coordination.
The delegation was also advised to formally submit detailed proposals for the programmes intended for implementation in the North-East, including clear outlines of planned activities, to facilitate appropriate internal consideration and guidance.
It is important to note that the engagement with the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs highlighted the growing role of organised youth groups in addressing security, social orientation, and national image challenges. CONYSSA’s activities align broadly with Nigeria’s foreign policy pillars on demography and diaspora engagement.
Subject to due diligence and formal submission of proposals, structured collaboration with CONYSSA could enhance the Ministry’s outreach to Nigerian youths at home and abroad, strengthen preventive engagement, and contribute positively to national security and image-building efforts. Moreso, continued engagement is recommended within the confines of the Ministry’s statutory mandate and existing institutional frameworks to achieve desired results.
