he Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar received in the audience Dr. Philip Mshelbila, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), during a thank-you courtesy visit to Tafawa Balewa House on Friday, 12 December 2025.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Dr. Mshelbila who formally expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister and the Ministry for their continued support and partnership over the years, including during his previous assignments within the energy sector. He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening coordination between Nigeria and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in advancing global gas dialogue, cooperation, and strategic engagement.
The Honourable Minister congratulated Dr. Mshelbila on his new appointment and assured him of Nigeria’s unwavering support as he assumes leadership of the Forum at a crucial moment for the global energy landscape. He commended Dr. Mshelbila’s distinguished career, which he noted that his private-sector experience and international expertise will significantly enhance the work of the esteemed Forum.
Both sides expressed readiness to deepen collaboration in the gas industry, promote Nigeria’s interests within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, and sustain constructive partnerships that contribute to global energy security, economic development, and mutual prosperity.
The meeting ended with an exchange of pleasantries and words of appreciation to the Honourable Minister and the entire staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
