Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, as Nigeria seeks to deepen cooperation with major emerging economies and expand South-South partnerships.
Sen. Shettima is leading a high-level delegation comprising the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; Environment, Balarabe Lawal, among others.
Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025 and has since used the platform to advance its economic and diplomatic interests. During the summit, Shettima is expected to participate in high-level sessions and hold bilateral meetings focused on trade, investment, agriculture, technology and industrial development.
Nigeria will also explore opportunities in manufacturing, artificial intelligence, the digital economy and other strategic sectors, while drawing lessons from India’s use of technology and AI to create opportunities for its large youth population.
Foreign Affairs Minister Odumegwu-Ojukwu said India’s experience in deploying technology to engage its youthful population was particularly relevant to Nigeria.
