Valedictory Session in honour of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday 30 March 2026, hosted a Valedictory Session in honour of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, in recognition of his distinguished service and contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy.
The event brought together Senior Government Officials, Directors, and staff of the Ministry, as well as representatives of relevant agencies and stakeholders in Nigeria’s foreign policy community.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, described the session as both symbolic and significant, noting that it provided an opportunity to reflect on the Honourable Minister’s impactful leadership and the strides recorded in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives. He highlighted the Minister’s role in strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, promoting economic diplomacy, and enhancing Nigeria’s visibility on the global stage.
Goodwill messages delivered by senior officials and colleagues underscored the Honourable Minister’s visionary leadership, professionalism, and commitment to institutional development. Speakers commended his emphasis on innovation, discipline, and excellence within the Ministry, as well as his efforts in promoting Nigeria’s strategic interests internationally.
A citation delivered by the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu in honour of the Honourable Minister who voluntarily resigned his appointment highlighted key achievements during his tenure, including the articulation and operationalisation of the Four-D Foreign Policy Doctrine-Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora-as well as significant milestones in economic diplomacy, multilateral engagement, institutional reform, and citizen protection.
In his response, the Honourable Minister expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry’s leadership and staff for their cooperation and professionalism throughout his tenure.
