Today, 21st September, 2023 the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs (HMFA), H.E. Yusuf M. Tuggar (OON) participated in the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) held in New York on the sidelines of UNGA 78th.
The Meeting was Chaired by H.E. Vincent Biruta of Rwanda and had the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland KC in attendance. The meeting discussed critical global challenges and advanced strategies to addressing them for a better future.
The Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs in his contribution, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the Organization’s ideals of promoting peace & security, democracy & the rule of law, as precursor to sustainable development.
He identified some of the global challenges facing the world today (climate change, terrorism, cybercrime and other transnational organized crimes) as growing threats to national and international security. He therefore, underscored the importance of increased collaboration among Member States in the areas of sharing of information & technical expertise, to effectively tackle the challenges.
HMFA also shared Nigeria’s experiences and highlighted the strides made in the areas of gender equality/empowerment, Climate Action, and youth empowerment. Concluding, he called for increased economic cooperation among Member States and invited more Foreign Direct investments (FDI) into Nigeria.
