Today, 25th March, 2024 the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar (OON) received in audience Professor Khaled El-Enany, the African Union and Arab League candidate for the seat of the Director General (DG) of UNESCO.
The aspiring candidate is on a tour of African countries to seek support for his candidacy as the next DG of UNESCO. He used the occasion to share his aspirations for Africa if elected.
The Honourable Minister in response informed that Nigeria was interested in having more heritage sites, in addition to the two currently listed by UNESCO. He also reiterated Nigeria’s call for the restitution of its artifacts being held by several countries of the world.
Professor Khaled El-Enany, born in 1971 is a distinguished Egyptian egyptologist, and General Supervisor of the prestigious Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (a UNESCO flagship project).
