NORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA DIVISION
The Division superintends ten countries namely Canada, Mexico, United States, Belize, Costa Rica. Of these, the country maintains resident Embassies in three namely the United States, Canada and Mexico and concurrent accreditation in the others.
Relations between Nigeria and Mexico got a new momentum and impetus when the Nigerian government reopened its Embassy it earlier closed in 1976 in 2000. As a mark of reciprocity, the Mexican authority reopened its Embassy in Abuja in 2007. Since then relations between the two countries have taken a new dimension. To further cement these relations a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria and Mexico was signed on July 31, 2012. The Mexican Ambassador, Mr. Marco Antonio Garcia Blanco signed on behalf of Mexico while Ambassador Bukun-Olu Onemola, signed on behalf of Nigeria. Presently an officer is undergoing a course on Spanish language in Mexico under the auspices of the Mexican government.
