The recent military coup in Mali that ousted the Government of President Amadou Toumani Toure not only plunged the country into serious political and constitutional crises, but has also, in its wake created security challenges for the sub-region. At the instance of Nigeria, a dialogue was initiated with the representatives of the Junta, which subsequently enabled the much-needed breakthrough for ECOWAS. The peace process in still on-going and Nigeria is determined to steer the cause towards the restoration of the territorial integrity of Mali and a full resolution of the crisis.
