NIGERIA-CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC RELATIONS

In response to CAR’s request in May 2011, Nigeria through National Boundary Commission organized a successful Border Technical Assistance Workshop in Abuja for CAR officials in which a draft MOU on Border Assistance was presented to CAR for consideration.

Also, responding to invitation, Nigeria which CAR considers as big brother attended as observer the Donor Conference Round Table meeting on CAR held in Brussels, Belgium from 16-18 June 2012. This includes support for the channelization of River Obangui in CAR to reactivate Lake chad Basin, which, if actualized, will help in rehabilitating over 30 million people mostly Nigerians.

The cordial relations between Nigeria and CAR were further boosted by the high level official visit of President Bozize of CAR to Abuja in November, 2011. During the visit, very important political and economic issues aimed at promoting and strengthening bilateral ties were discussed. Also, a General cooperation Agreement between the two countries was signed while negotiations for the signing of a Joint Commission Agreement in Bangui were concluded. President Bozize accompanied by the Permanent Secretary (MFA) also visited former President Obasanjo’s farm at Otta, Ogun State.
