Emergencies are unpleasant and undesirable as they sound, yet it has become a daily occurrence for Nigerians in the diaspora. The reasons for this are not far-fetched, they range from poorly maintained vehicles, inadequate road signs, activities of some government agencies, carelessness/recklessness etc. The list is inexhaustible. Interestingly, though very sad, our research has shown that Nigerians involved in any form of accident are always left to their own fate and in most cases some of them die as a result of their inability to afford medical treatment. Pertinent to observe that most countries only cover their citizens with insurance while Nigerians in the diaspora are left at the mercy of providence. Interestingly, MFA has introduced first of its kind in Nigeria A Travelling Welfare Scheme to ameliorate the consequences that may result from such emergencies. This scheme takes care of Nigerians where there is any form of accident or emergency.
